And today, we can reveal to you the cover and a few sneak peeks inside!!
This deluxe special edition of the fourth instalment of Harry’s Hogwarts adventures has brought several key moments to life in a kaleidoscope of colour. Through new artwork and paper-engineered magic, you can explore the twists and turns of the Triwizard Tournament maze, or gasp in shock as Voldemort’s Dark Mark rises off the page. There are eight key paper-engineered elements to watch out for, so prepare for a few surprises. Take a look at how it all comes together, with this fabulous example of the Weasley’s Quidditch World Cup tent magically expanding.
Among the illustrations, fans will get to enjoy new depictions of Rita Skeeter, a festive look at the Yule Ball and a haunting chapter page featuring the dilapidated Riddle House. We’re already loving the vibrancy of Rita’s outfit and the attention to detail on her accessories, such as her trademark crocodile-green handbag.
Elsewhere, the Great Hall is resplendent in frosty blues and purples with this beautiful illustration of the Triwizard Tournament’s Yule Ball sequence. You’ll notice Dumbledore’s beard is looking especially fabulous in the crowd!
This is the perfect year to get reacquainted with Goblet of Fire, as 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the book’s release! Ah, we remember queuing up at our local bookshop at midnight well...
The story, which follows Harry as he gets unwittingly embroiled in the legendary Triwizard Tournament, opened up a darker side of the wizarding world for fans, as Lord Voldemort’s ascent to power grows steadily more catastrophic.
So why not celebrate this thrilling instalment of the Harry Potter stories with this beautiful new interpretation?
Scholastic has revealed plans to release a new interactive illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on October 14, 2025. The special edition will feature full-color illustrations by Karl James Mountford and interactive paper-engineered elements designed by Jess Tice-Gilbert.
This deluxe version of the fourth book in J.K. Rowling’s series will maintain the complete, unabridged text while incorporating eight interactive features throughout its 608 pages. Readers will have the opportunity to explore intricate paper-engineered elements, including the Triwizard Tournament maze and the titular Goblet of Fire. Additional interactive components will allow fans to examine the Weasleys’ tent at the Quidditch World Cup, witness the Dark Mark appearing in the sky, and accompany Harry into the depths of the Hogwarts lake.
The edition, which will retail for $49.99 in the United States, represents a continuation of Scholastic’s commitment to bringing new artistic interpretations to the Harry Potter series. Ellie Berger, President of Scholastic Trade Publishing, highlighted this ongoing dedication: “As the U.S. publisher of Harry Potter, it’s exciting to see J.K. Rowling’s beloved series illustrated and reimagined by a talented group of international artists over the years including Mary GrandPre, Brian Selznick, Kazu Kibuishi, Jim Kay, MinaLima, Ziyi Gao, and now Karl James Mountford. We are thrilled to continue to publish these beautifully illustrated interactive editions that Harry Potter fans as well as new readers will enjoy reading, treasure and collect.”
Mountford, who will provide the illustrations for this edition, shared his personal connection to the series: “I grew up with Harry Potter, and these books are so special and a real throwback to my childhood. That’s the magic of Harry Potter, the stories are for everyone. Always will be. It’s wonderful, surreal, and a little bit terrifying to illustrate the interactive edition of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. With big and extremely talented footsteps to follow, it’s an honor to be a part of this magical world and have the opportunity to work on a story that I love so much. With the incredible team of Potterheads at Scholastic, this has been a remarkable experience for me. I hope that readers can look for the love, respect, and adventure within my artwork, bringing my own flavour of creativity in continuing such a stunning collection of books.”
This new release seems to continue the interactive illustrated format established by the editions illustrated by MinaLima of the first three Harry Potter books (also published by Scholastic), with Karl James Mountford taking over artistic duties for “Goblet of Fire.” The edition maintains the signature interactive paper-engineered elements that have become hallmarks of these special editions, ensuring continuity in the series while bringing Mountford’s unique artistic perspective to the increasingly complex fourth installment. This transition in illustrators, while preserving the established format, ensures that collectors can continue building their interactive illustrated collection of the series.
The book will be released simultaneously in the United Kingdom by Bloomsbury Children’s Books. This publication joins a series that has achieved remarkable success, with over 600 million copies sold worldwide in 85 languages.
